Life Changes So Fast in Your Thirties and Forties

We’ll emphasize agility and optionality in your financial plan, adapting to changes as life unfolds rather than the transactional approach of meeting once a year and calling it good.

Supporting Dynamic Career Paths
for Parents in
Tech

I’ll add context to key financial decisions as you navigate the ups and downs of your career.

What You Can Expect From Me

I’ll meet you where you are.

I’ll give you space and time to think deeply about the work we do together.

I’ll ask good questions.

And really listen to your answers.

I’ll strive to make communication fluent and effortless.

I’m a pick-up-the-phone kind of guy, but if texting is easier for you, that’s fine!

I won’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

We’ll strive for directionally correct decisions and make frequent adjustments.

Organization

I’ll help you find clarity and bring order to your financial life.

Accountability

I’ll help you follow through on financial commitments.

Objectivity

I’ll bring insight and context specific to your situation to help you avoid making emotionally driven decisions about your money.

Proactivity

I’ll work in concert with you to try to anticipate life transitions and be financially prepared for them. We’ll regularly review different aspects of your financial picture to work toward financial independence.

Education

I’ll explore what specific knowledge will be needed to succeed in your situation.

Partnership

I’ll attempt to help you achieve the best life possible by working with you, not just for you. We’re on the same side of the table.

Who I Work With

My sweet spot is working with gen Y parents in tech (roughly age 25-45) with equity compensation and young kids, often those hiring a financial advisor for the first time. If you’re looking for a long-term partnership that becomes more valuable over time, you’re in the right place.

Have you already worked with an advisor and it didn’t work out? LRW is different from what you’ve experienced. This isn’t a generalist financial planning firm – I specialize in helping families in tech.

My Specializations

Maximize Your Human Capital & Make Career Decisions Intelligently

Align your limited time and earning power with how you want to live your life. This could look like:

  • Helping you think about the big trade-offs as you navigate a dynamic career while still supporting a meaningful and interesting life outside of work.

  • Teaming up to vet and evaluate pay packages and negotiate for a compensation mix that matches your ideal work/life balance, cash needs, growth ambitions and long-term goals.

  • Planning around a shifting career path, pivots and sabbaticals; irregular year-to-year income and tax pictures; and liquidity events that can change everything.

Education Planning

I have two young girls, myself, so believe me, I understand the challenge involved in coming up with a concrete plan for higher education expenses amid all of the other financial “shoulds."

I’ll work with you to build out a savings strategy that meets your longer-term goals, including planning around covering the costs of future higher education for your kids (or not!), while doing things like staying on top of student loan debt, keeping spending in check and setting aside money for a few family vacays each year.

A Flexible Approach Designed for Working Parents

I understand the constraints you’re feeling as a working parent. You’re always trying to find time for something. I love working with clients in the same boat I’m in.

I want to bridge the gap on common sticking points when working on your finances, and help you create space to have these conversations about money and what you want your lives to look like, both as individuals and as a family.

My Process

1. The Kickoff!

We’ll start with a casual convo to get you up to speed on my process: When we’ll get together and why – plus a quick review of the prep work I’ll send you to get us going.

2. The Vision
We’ll begin to lay the foundation for the why behind the money decisions you’ll make.
  • What do you want to accomplish with your money?
  • What are your core values – family (a great one, tbh), free time, greater wealth, financial independence / making work optional, travel, etc.
  • What is your Vision for the future?
  • What do you want to get out of this relationship, and what would make it perfect?
3. Your Financial Vitals

We’ll talk through some biggies:

  • Is work optional? If not, how close are you?
  • Are you using your income wisely?
  • Are you putting enough into your retirement accounts?
  • Is your equity mix appropriate?
  • Do you have enough liquidity to meet your short-term needs?
  • Do you have enough insurance coverage?
4. The Big Picture

We’ll talk through a summary of your goals and get clarity around what is Most Important, including the resources you have to pay for your goals – or how much you need to start saving to make your future vision a reality.

Also, we’ll review calculations for things like your kids’ college expenses, a future home purchase or renovation, when work becomes optional, and anything else that matters.

We’ll review your cash flow and budgeting, and decide if the system you have (or may not have) in place is working for you, or if you want to take advantage of some solid, relatively painless options (YMMV) to get started.

4. The Review

We’ll go over your full financial plan, aka how you get from where you are today to where you want to be, and answer any questions you have along the way.

5. The Implementation

Actually doing the stuff. Keeping with The Plan. Making it happen. Pulling that horizon, whatever it is, closer.

Ongoing Planning Cadence

Annual Review

I’ll hold an annual review of your plan in the first part of the year (January-May) or fall (September-November), with a check-in during the other half of the year.

Monitor Investments

I monitor your investments continually throughout the year, reviewing and checking in with you as RSUs vest or you exercise NSOs/ISOs.

Accumulation Planning

Intelligently allocating cash from equity vests, plus check-ins to update tax planning projections, set cash aside for a specific goal or expense - or you might just want to see what another $X,XXX does to your FI numbers.

Plan Ahead

If there’s a financially significant event, like your company’s public offering, switching jobs, etc., then we’ll plan months ahead, so we can build a framework that makes sense and execute when the time comes.

Bottom line: : It’s “All You Can Eat”
I’m here for you anytime as questions come up or as life unfolds.

My Pricing
